The paper by group alumnus Cole Gruninger, Composite B-Spline Current Deposition and Interpolation Operators for Thin-Wire Finite-Difference Time-Domain Simulations, has been accepted for publication in IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation. (A preprint is available on arXiv.)

Thin-wire finite-difference time-domain simulations of obliquely oriented closed-loop antennas suffer from persistent low-frequency parasitic currents because the current-deposition operator does not conserve charge. This paper introduces composite B-spline regularizations that turn currents that are continuous curls into discrete curls, restoring charge conservation. The approach is an example of a mimetic, immersed boundary-like method, and numerical tests on dipole and loop antennas show orientation-independent impedances.

Congratulations, Cole!
